Coastal Chic Stenciling, by Jenny Shain

Coastal Chic Decorating

Hello again my Lovelies! What are you in the mood for today? Let’s talk about a great bathroom project! Have you ever wanted to create your own wallpaper? Try stenciling!

This is a “Royal Design Studio” stencil called Acanthus. I painted it one shade darker than the paint. Then I added accents in silver & another shade of purple. Love it!!! On parallel walls, it’s just perfect.

This is definitely a 2 person job. You’ll need to tape down the stencil after you’ve leveled it off. Then, I used a professional painter’s 4″ roller and off-loaded the roller & paint onto a metal painter’s screen. You’ll need to let the stencil & the painting dry about 20 minutes between each section & use.

Honestly, when I go in this bathroom, I just look up & go-AH! I LOVE this ROOM! It looks like a delicious cup of gelato…yep that’s right, I just want to LICK IT UP! YUM, YUM, YUM! If it’s wrong to lick the walls, I don’t want to be right.

Now go get that stenciling!

Ok, I really love these little doors! I’ve been dying to post them on here because I think you’re going to love them too! These “Garden Doors” are approximately 300 pieces of stained glass & antique china. Each piece I specifically cut & chose for that spot.

Here’s a look into my Artistic Process. Click the photos to get a much better view!

Garden Art! Mosaics by Jenny Shain

Garden Art!

This is a piece, “Purple Swirl,” I did with my hubby & father in law. We worked together after I drew it out. It is in their garden walkway in Sparta, Illinois. I love it when a creative plan comes together!

Soon the daffodils will be bursting forth around it! Praising God for Spring!

“Red Door Mosaic” Jenny Shain

People might be surprised, but this creation is probably my favorite piece, I just love the reddish pink contrasted by the silvery mirror. Simple & Sweet. I love it! About 110 pieces.

Jenny Presents: Mirrored Window for Mosaic Month!

It’s Mosaic Month here at PBAF!

Jenny Shain presents “Window Watching”

The Creative Process:

This is a large window that I mosaic-ed with 200 pieces of mirror that I cut. Breaking mirror is much more tedious than it appears. You cannot simply break it & set it in place. MOST pieces break with cracks & splits… not good enough for me. Also, each piece must be inspected to see if the mirrored backing has come off, those pieces have black marks on them under the glass. Next comes setting each piece like a giant puzzle with no box lid to cheat from! In all of my mosaics, I’ve made every piece fit tightly & perfectly. That means, it may appear random, but no part of my art is ever random, it’s designed. Each piece is hand selected for that particular area.

Killing Me Softly with my Mosaics…”Water & Sky” by Jenny Shain

Yeah, it almost killed me...2000 pieces hand cut for one table. But, it’s GORGEOUS.

((Did I mention the stitches I got at the ER at 2am?, told ya it almost killed me))

“What is it sista?,” you ask. Deep in your heart, You Know…

It’s a mosaic of the Bermuda pink sand resting near the green flora seen at the bottom. This light pink glass sits against the white pearly glass “shells.” It then moves to light blue glass which is the surf, as it crashes into seafoam, the cut mirror. This reflects the light on the ocean. (Did I mention how impossible mirror is to cut?) The ocean gets deeper & so do the colors. You know when you stand on the shore & look to the horizon the water colors are deep & then it looks like it simply drops off? That’s what happens in my mosaic. This gives way to the sunset. It’s about 6pm in Bermuda & the sky is aglow with pinks, purples, & blues.
