“Founded in 1879, the museum was relocated to it’s current home in Forest Park for the 1904 World’s Fair. Designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert, the Museum’s Beaux-Arts style building bears the inscription

Photography by Jenny Shain
“With water from the stream Galadriel filled the basin to the brim and breathed on it, and when the water was still again, she spoke. ‘Here is the Mirror of Galadriel.’ ….She lifted up her hand and from the ring that she wore there issued a great light that illumined her alone and left all else dark.”

Tower Grove Park, 1867
The pond was designed to accomodate model sailboats, but has become popular for the picturesque “ruins” that line its northern edge. In 1867, the Lindell Hotel burned to the ground. Designer Henry Shaw saw potential “ancient ruins” in the building’s fire damaged blocks.
